Galatea

Galatea is one of the fifty daughters from Nereus and Doris that lived in the depths of the Aegean Sea. She is a nereid, a water nymph, and symbolizes the female spirit of the water. Galatea is a minor goddess personifying everything that is beautiful and kind about the sea.

Galatea her lover Acis, a river god, was killed by the cyclops Polyphemus. With her divine powers she transforms Acis his corpse into a beautiful fountain and immortalizes him.
